Phoenix Suns Roster Report 2009-09-19

Phoenix Suns Roster Report 2009-09-19PLAYER NEWS:

--G Goran Dragic suffered what is reportedly a minor knee injury during Slovenia's European Championship game on Poland. Dragic will be the main backup to Steve Nash at the point guard spot this year, although Leandro Barbosa also has experience playing the position.

Dragic has played a lot of basketball this summer, first with the Suns team in Las Vegas and then with Slovenia, so taking a break before training camp might not be a bad idea.

--G Steve Nash can add "executive producer" to his many hats on and off the court. He's listed in the credits on former teammate Shaquille O'Neal's TV show "Shaq versus" Nash hasn't publicly commented on reports that the idea for the show was originally his and he's being compensated with a title and salary, but O'Neal told a newspaper that his show is "slightly different" from the one Nash told him about.

--C Amare Stoudemire, when he's not touring ESPN for a flurry of radio and television interviews as he did in early September, has not received any setbacks from his off-season eye surgery and is taking part in half-court pickup games with teammates.

DRAFT PICKS:

Earl Clark, F, 6-10, Louisville (first round) -- He's the kind of guy who can guard the hybrid forwards in this league. He's played in an up-tempo system in college (for Rick Pitino). He's got a good body makeup and there is an indication that he can improve offensively. The drawback has been his motor and his attention to detail.

Taylor Griffin, F, 6-8, Oklahoma (second round) -- No, not Blake Griffin. Right school, right family, but this Griffin averaged 10 points and six rebounds a game for the Sooners and will have a hard time breaking onto the roster.
