Phoenix Suns Notes, Quotes 2008-11-30

Phoenix Suns Notes, Quotes 2008-11-30
--F Shawn Marion didn't have much room for sentiment during his first game back in Phoenix. He acknowledged a brief standing ovation from Suns' fans before the game, and despite a poor shooting night (5-for-13) he filled up the stat sheet as usual (10 points, nine rebounds and six assists).

The Suns did not otherwise acknowledge Marion's eight-plus seasons with any sort of video production or tribute. Suns owner Robert Sarver did not attend the game.

"It was mixed," Marion said of the crowd reaction. "I gave my heart and soul to this city and that team over there. I think they know that and they felt that and they gave me a standing ovation.

"I love Phoenix, I had a great time here. But I'm a Miami Heat player and it felt good to get this win here."

--G Leandro Barbosa turned 26 years old on Friday and celebrated with 20 points in 37 minutes on 9-for-20 shooting.

--Terry Porter's run of success against former teams finally ended after seven straight wins. He played one season for the Heat (1998-99).

--G Dwyane Wade's 43 points were the most by a Suns' opponent since Allen Iverson of the Nuggets went for 44 in Denver on Mar. 17, 2007. It was the most against the Suns in Phoenix since Washington's Gilbert Arenas exploded for 54 on Dec. 22, 2006 -- still the most points ever scored in US Airways Center.

--The Suns' starters had only 56 points in the game, 13 more than Wade scored himself.

--The Suns are 0-2 in attempts to string together four wins in a row. They had their other three-game winning streak snapped in Chicago on Nov. 7.

QUOTES TO NOTE: "Tonight, just the way they drove it down our paint and no one was trying to react to help their teammate out -- guys getting the ball and just dunking without anyone responding at all on the weak side, I was really disappointed. We just have to go back to the drawing board." -- Suns coach Terry Porter.

"With star players, you can't give them anything easy, and you have to keep them off the free throw line. We didn't do either A or B. He can get 43 points any night, but we didn't make him work very hard to get them." -- Terry Porter on Phoenix's effort defending Dwyane Wade.

"It was a bad showing all around. We weren't ready to play and they were, and that's a bad combination. I thought we played pretty well in Sacramento (when the Suns won without Steve Nash on Nov. 14) so I thought we'd be able to get away with it. But they were too good and we didn't respond in any way." -- F Raja Bell, who had 16 points and four 3-pointers but had no luck in slowing down Dwyane Wade.
