During Wednesday night's season opener in Los Angeles, Steve Nash was the target of a Clippers fan who -- armed with a copy of Nash's birth certificate -- decided to verbally write Nash's NBA obituary. "You're done... you're an old man... you're finished, Nash," the fan repeated for the first three quarters. Of course, when Nash scored 15 points in the fourth quarter and polished off a 109-107 Suns win with the winning shot, that fan wasn't heard from. And if he happened to be watching during Friday's 123-101 Suns win in Phoenix, he would feel even sillier.
A few months shy of his 36th birthday, Nash scored 18 points and reached the 20-assist mark for the sixth time in his career as the Suns jumped to a 2-0 record with a convincing win over the outmatched Warriors.
Nash was spreading the wealth to all areas but found a new target in center Channing Frye, who nailed his first six three-point tries and finished with 22 points.
The Suns had only two fast-break points against the Clippers on Wednesday, but piled up 30 against a Warriors team that was willing to run and gun but couldn't match the firepower. Golden State doesn't have a true point guard -- let alone a Steve Nash -- and no one to find open shooters like the former two-time MVP does routinely.
The Suns have a tough five-game Eastern road swing on the horizon, but they have a chance to read out with a 3-0 record if they can beat winless Minnesota at home on Sunday. Jason Richardson will make his season debut after serving a two-game NBA suspension and his offense will only add to a team that has averaged 116 points in the first two games.
The T-Wolves have given the Suns trouble in the past, especially in Minneapolis, with big guys like Al Jefferson inside. But the Suns usually get their running game in gear against them at home and know that they want to head East with a head of steam.
SUNS 123, WARRIORS 101: Leandro Barbosa scored 24 points and each of his four fellow starters added at least 18 as the Suns scored 11 straight points in the third quarter to grab a comfortable lead and never looked back. Steve Nash had 18 points and added 20 assists as Phoenix jumped out to a 2-0 start by averaging 116 points a night.
